In keeping with the show theme of "What Did I Come In Here For?", I went with my experience of going into the garage for my stash of palette knives and coming out with a paint brush. So in keeping with my word of the year, "Why Not", I chose to paint on loose canvas with a paint brush. I love open, undiscovered or forgotten vistas so this was symbiotic and apropos.

Forgotten, Oil, wax, charcoal, pigment and graphite on loose canvas, 29” x 29”

My work is abstract yet representational; scale and balance subtle, visceral, and felt, not blatantly seen. The surface energy is bold and intriguing, while the composition is rooted in classical principles of design and proportion. What I see, think, and feel transforms into color and texture, paint and canvas, which becomes a personal story translated through art. When joined by the viewer's experiences and memories, the work takes on new meaning, offering the natural equilibrium that comes from centering oneself on the horizon. Spending uncountable hours in the woods and on the water instilled my intrigue that’s depicted in my work.
